A Business Architect
should probably have
built a few things.

Some worked.

Some didn't.

Good.

Because the real world doesn't always behave the way the books say it should.

I wouldn't trust someone who only knows business in theory.

INSIDE

I spent years inside the machine.

Corporate leadership. International business. Teams. Budgets. Strategy. P&Ls. Sales. And yes, politics.

Been there. Done that. Navigated it.

I learned how businesses operate when the architecture already exists.

Customers. Processes. Teams. Systems. Capital. Reputation. Infrastructure.

Much of what makes the business work is already there.

OUTSIDE

Then I stepped outside the machine.

And had to build without it.

No existing customers. No established processes. No team waiting. No infrastructure. No reputation to borrow.

This time, I wasn't managing something that already existed.

I was creating something that didn't.

Being good at business doesn't mean you know how to build one.

Starting from zero is a different game.

I learned that one the expensive way.

Educated enough to understand
how businesses should work.
Experienced enough to know
how they actually do.

And I still build.

Today, I still run businesses.

Develop products.

Experiment with technology.

Coach.

Write.

Create methodologies.

Turn ideas into things that have to work outside my head.

I still have skin in the game.

My ideas don't get to live safely in theory.
They have to work in the real world.

If you're looking for someone whose job is to agree with you and keep you motivated, I'm probably not your guy.

If you want to find out whether your idea — or your business — can get real, that's where I come in.

I'll challenge the idea.

I'll challenge the assumptions behind it.

If you're wrong, I'll tell you.

If you're right, I'll tell you that too.

If the evidence says stop, we stop.

If it's worth building, we architect it.

Then we make it real.

One more thing.

If you want someone to build your business FOR YOU, you'll need to find someone else.

But if you want someone to build it WITH YOU —

we'll architect it together and make it exist.

Credentials are nice.
Outcomes are better.

You've heard what I know.

You've seen how I work.

Now see what happens when Business Architecture meets reality.

PICK MY BRAIN.

I've written about a lot of what goes into starting and building a business. The answer may already be here. If it isn't, challenge accepted.
